Amber Portwood, a star on Teen Mom, has stirred up controversy among her fellow cast members following a contentious scene in Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. In the episode, she used an called daughter Leah a “d–k” , causing her to tear up during her birthday celebration.
In the episode that aired on June 6, Amber arrived tardily to Leah's birthday dinner causing a stir. Her ex and Leah's father, Gary Shirley, was among those already at the venue, along with his wife, Kristina, and their daughter, Emilee. After belatedly joining them, Amber informed Leah that she would be needing her more as she turns 15, a comment Leah chose to disregard.
Trying to introduce Leah to her new boyfriend, also named Gary, Amber faced resistance from her daughter who expressed fear and declined to look at his photograph. Leah's dismissive response to the introduction led to Amber offending her by calling her a derogatory name.
The situation escalated into a dispute with Leah's father, Gary, leading to an upset Leah urging her parents to cease their disagreement. A distraught Leah left the venue in the company of Gary, Kristina, and Emilee, while Amber was left in tears.
Unfortunately, Amber's actions did not sit well with her costar, Briana DeJesus, who expressed her disapproval on Twitter, criticizing Amber for belittling her child. This tweet, however, was later removed.
Briana further echoed the sentiments of fans by sharing several tweets reacting to the occurrence. One stated, “It’s her birthday and she’s crying this is so sad.”
Jenelle Evans, star of Teen Mom 2, also reacted to Briana’s deleted comments, indicating her shock at the episode.
Additionally, Devoin Austin, Briana's ex, shared his thoughts on Instagram in defense of Leah, criticizing the handling of the birthday celebration. Teen Mom: Young and Pregnant star Rachel Beaver added her voice, condemning Amber for her behavior and treatment of Leah, suggesting she wasn't focused on building a relationship with Leah, and rather making it about herself.
Amid the conflagration of criticism, Amber has not provided a public response.
